An old traditional playground game that is still as popular as ever
Steady hands and nerves of steel are needed to play this old favourite.
The much-loved game of pick-up sticks has been played by children for centuries and the concept is so simple, anyone can play.
To start the game, tip out the sticks so that they fall in a random heap.
Then, each player takes it in turns, using the stripy stick, to remove just one other stick.
It may sound easy but the challenge is to remove your chosen stick without disturbing the rest of the pile – and as they balance precariously against each other, this is often not as simple as it may sound.
The tips of these wooden sticks are painted in a colourful array of different shades for extra fun.
You could even create your own extended versions of the game – such as allocating different scores for the different colours.
