I can’t quite believe the summer is nearly here, we’ve had a sunny month of May, but now it’s June I’m really hoping the sun is here to stay! Knowing that the next couple months should bring warm, dry weather it’s time to start discussing outdoor activities on the blog. As you know I’m a firm believer in encouraging kids to put down tablets, phones, laptops and to get them exploring the natural world! But most importantly I believe it’s vital to get them outdoors in the fresh air and simply just out of the house!!!! So now my aim is to provide you with a whole host of different activities to do, play and make, outdoors!
I was asked by Mud & Bloom to review their May subscription and after setting myself the target to find lots of fun outdoor activities I said, yes, I’d love too!
Mud & Bloom was created by Anja, mum of two, who loves being out and about with her kids either gardening, crafting or just spending time in nature. She wanted to turn her passion for the outdoors into a business so what’s better than combining the two things she loves by creating a gardening & crafts, subscription box for kids.
The subscription boxes are recommend for children aged 3-8 and I think this is the perfect age! Little ones will need a little more adult supervision whilst older children will be eager to try and complete each box on their own. If you subscribe to Mud & Bloom for just £7.95 per month, including delivery (which is an incredible price) then every month you will receive a box of seasonal nature crafts & gardening activities straight to your door. I love how the parcel fits through the letter box as you don’t need to worry about being in to receive your gifts. Each box includes at least two seasonal activities one gardening and one nature craft as well as a whole host of instructions, games, quizzes etc. The activities have been created by qualified teachers and support the national curriculum with influence from Forest School, Montessori and Steiner education which makes the boxes all the more appealing to me – you know I just adore educational gifts! In the May subscription box we received
- Lots of info all about nature in May
- How to make a Petal & Leaf Crown Mask and the equipment needed
- How to make your own nature loom and the equipment
- Grow your own sweet peas instructions and seeds
- Grow your own Pumpkins instructions and seeds
- A mini beast spring scavenger hunt
- And a quiz
The activities inside the box are super fun and easy for the kids to make and do. Over the weekend we went out walking the dogs and collected a fantastic assortment of flowers, twigs, sticks & nature bits and bobs so we could complete all the activities! Once back at home we loved gluing & sticking to make our petal crown masks which look beautiful! We had great fun planting our pumpkin seeds & sweet pea seeds and I can’t wait to see them grow into beautiful plants and the kids are super excited about carving their pumpkins in October for Halloween!
We loved doing the quiz & mini beast hunt during the bank holiday weekend and it kept the kids well and truely entertained! It’s great to spread the activities included in the box over the entire month, by doing one or two a week! This means that once we finished May’s box, June’s box should be on it’s way meaning that there’s always something to do and keep the kids happy!
